I recently attended a Kwanis meeting in Tahoe City and the guest speaker was David Tirman with JMA to give an update on the progress and plan for the Homewood ski area redevelopment. Despite the push back in the beginning and law suits that were filed the project with some adjustments is moving forward. David went over the plan to build in two phases over the next 10 years with completion around 2026. The first phase will consist of the much needed 5 star hotel, gondola to mid-mountain and the mid-mountain lodge and pool. They are currently working on finalizing the flag for the hotel but it will be 5 star making it the only 5 star hotel at the Lake. Currently the Ritz Carlton at Northstar is the only one in the area.
In addition to the hotel the 15,000 square feet of retail space and ice skiing pond will also be included in the first phase. David confirmed their goal is to fill the retail space with local businesses.
This is going to be an amazing addition to the North Lake Tahoe community and will provide new options for dining (mid-mountain year round via the gondola), shopping for locals and tourists alike and of course jobs. Over the 10 years they are also planning on replacing old chair lifts with new ones adding to the skier experience as well as other on mountain improvements.
